Now this is a topic I’m excited for on my birthday! Time for some of my favorite queer books, and shoutout to Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm for hosting T5T!
Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
I had such a blast reading this one, and can’t wait to read Ruin of Stars next week! The main character, Sal, is a genderfluid thief/assassin, and I absolutely love them and their revenge quest. Plus, they’re so cute with their girlfriend.
Inkmistress by Audrey Coulthurst
Okay, so Of Fire and Stars also counts, but I’m trying to choose five different authors this week, and I read Inkmistress more recently than OFaS.
ANYWAY, the main character is bi and her ex-girlfriend can turn into a dragon, so that’s a lot of things happening at once that I love. That, her interactions with her love interest are really wonderful. They make a cute couple.
Windwitch by Susan Dennard
Okay, so this is one part wishful thinking and one part canon queer characters. In the wishful thinking department, I feel in it IN MY BONES that Iseult is queer. She’s my favorite, and maybe I’m projecting, but I’m just clinging to that.
But in terms of canon, there is a canon trans man in this book (though Merik, being the stubborn, shortsighted ass that he is, doesn’t use Cam’s proper pronouns most of the book), AND Vivia is gay! She’s got it so bad for Stix, and I’m BEGGING for them to get a happy ending when the series is over. Let my favorite lesbian princess become a lesbian queen and enjoy her time with her sailor lover.
The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie
Did I feature this last week? Yes. Am I doing it again? YES.
Cas and Swift’s relationship is the only f/f enemies to lovers I’ve ever read and I LOVED IT SO MUCH. Their relationship is complex and exciting and fantastic, and the addition of sea monsters in the rest of the plot is just a cherry on top. This is one of my favorite books ever at this point.
Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody
This was a delightful read, and one of the main characters is a bi black boy who is absolutely fantastic. Levi was so interesting, and I’m excited to see how his character pans out in King of Fools. There’s some loose ends from AoS that I’ve got my eye on, not to mention his relationship with Enne.
I’d love, love, LOVE to hear about any other queer YA books you’ve read and loved! I’m always looking for more to add to my shelves.
Loved the post. β€β€
Thanks, Priyasha!!
Oh! I haven’t read any of these so now I’m really excited to look into them!!! I kind of had a feeling about the Truthwitch series that I would ship them! We will see when I get around to reading the series!
Thanks for participating – added you to the list π
I hope you enjoy them, especially Truthwitch! The LGBTQ characters don’t show up until that second book, but they’re supposed to be frequent players after that + like I said, Iseult is totally queer in my head lol I want that so badly.
And thanks for hosting! I love T5T! π
Great post π Inkmistress and Truthwitch have both been on my tbr for forever!!
Thank you, I hope you get to read them soon! π
Do you think Iseult is queer? Well that would make sense….Great choices and fantastic covers!!!!
I really do, not based on canon evidence, but just a hint of projection lol. But in terms of canon, there are queer characters in the Witchlands, which is also good!
And thank you! I couldn’t help but pick ones with pretty covers, haha.
Nice picks! π
Thanks!
