So, here we are, with six days of NaNoWriMo in the rear-view mirror.
Oh my god, we’re six days in.
SEND HELP.
It’s hard to believe that a week has gone by already, and it’s distressing to realize that I’m BEHIND.
Normally, I lose steam closer to the middle of NaNo, but this past week has been so hectic that I’ve missed a lot of words I genuinely meant to write, and that setback has not been good for my approach.
That said, there’s no way in hell I’m giving up. I’m no quitter. I’m an avoider. There’s no giving up on things because the things I’d give up on, I don’t start.
Okay, yeah, so that’s a problem, but that’s something to tackle later. What matters now is that this project is still happening, and everything is going to be okay! I will hit my 50k by the end of the month, and I will be able to be smug about it to everyone at school who thinks it’s a bad idea to balance two research papers, a group project, and NaNo at the same time. Plus, this is my fourth year in a row. No failing now!
Anyways, here’s what we’re looking at with Fletch and Bone!
Current Word Count
A whopping 9,244 of 50k! Not the 10k I was hoping for this week, but so close!
Favorite Line
“Twenty minutes should be plenty of time to hide a body.”
When I say this is less ominous than it sounds, I do mean it. My poor main character just has to dispose of a dead mouse before her mom gets home. It’s just more fun to be ominous like this at the beginning of the project lol.
Favorite Character
Well, mostly since I’ve gotten a little stressed and rewritten my opening scene literally three times in three different POV/tense combos, I haven’t gotten far enough to introduce the character who’s maybe my favorite of all time. As it stands, though, my MC, Kate Fletcher, is wonderful.
She’s a high school senior who lives with her mom and just wants to get through this year because who really likes high school, huh? Of course, her birthday is on Halloween, she lives in a place currently (and maybe tentatively) called Purgatory Springs, and that means every year is a Halloween extravaganza, and she hates it. Free her, the poor thing.
Oh, also, she’s about to find out that the dead are rising and she’s the only one who can stuff them back in their graves. Supernatural level undertaking wasn’t really on her list of dream careers, but she doesn’t have much of a choice just yet.
OH, and on top of that, she has a crush on her best friend’s twin sister, who is adorable and so so so sweet. As a certified Disaster Lesbian™, though, Kate is not ready to make a move. Any moves. None at all.
Goals for This Week
Well, we’ll see what happens, but I’d really like to cross the 20k line, which is where the official NaNo site recommends being, and where my personal calendar recommends being just behind. Better to get ahead, though, if I can.
I also desperately want to get into the thick of the supernatural shenanigans, and the 20k mark is about where it should probably start getting heavier and more unusual. Let’s see if I can reach it!
Hopefully next week, I’ll have good news and be closer to my goal. And if you want to add me as a NaNo buddy in the meantime, feel free! My profile is here (and tbh, you can probably use it to be judgey of my progress, but don’t tell me if you’re being judgey please I beg you judge quietly).
You got this! Your book sounds really interesting 🙂
Thanks, Charleigh!! 😁
“Twenty minutes should be plenty of time to hide a body.”
This line hooked me. If I were to read that on the first page oooohhhh boooyyyy!
You are close to your goal of 10k at this point, so that is cause to celebrate!
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH I’m so glad to hear it! That’s definitely what I was going for with that line, haha.
It is! Not quite there, but I made a hell of a comeback and wrote over 4k yesterday to reach that 9.2k! I’ll take it.
Thanks for the encouragement! 😊
I AM HOOKED. And I want to see more hehe. GO GO GO write like the wind!
Next week! More next week! 😉 And haha, will do.
“Twenty minutes should be plenty of time to hide a body.”
That line has me sold and now I am waiting patiently for this release. GO FORTH AND WRITE ALL THE WORDS!
Thanks so much! Writing ALL THE WORDS is the goal. 😉
