Friday for Funsies || Books That Would Make Amazing Movies

Friday for Funsies

It’s been a while since I’ve done a proper Friday for Funsies, hasn’t it! This time, I’m going to attempt the impossible, strange as that may be.

I’m going to try and pick some books where the movie might actually live up to expectations.

Oh yeah, I’ve totally got my work cut out for me, don’t I?

Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand

My review isn’t out yet (look for it this coming Monday, the 26th), but I absolutely believe this book could make an amazing movie. It’s a standalone, which helps as a movie candidate, but the multiple points of view, the way the characters relate to one another, and the tense mystery and horror elements could make it absolutely incredible movie. Plus the moths that appear from chapter to chapter could make some ominous and truly gorgeous appearances.

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

The Wicked Deep

The cool thing about this one is that I believe Netflix already has the rights, and an adaption is in progress! Again, this is a standalone, and the spookiness of it could translate really well. There’s a mystery element that could be done extremely well, and while I worry a little about how the flashbacks could be handled, I think the ultimate resolution could be filmed soooooo dramatically.

The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge

Standalones, standalones, standalones! I feel like that’s the trick to a good movie. Maybe I’m tired of waiting for sequels? But yet again, we have another one that could do well. The Lie Tree could make a great sort of thriller, especially since it already has such a mysterious, almost gothic tone to it. The setting could be gorgeously imagined, too, since it takes place on an island with a small town, an old OLD house, and an archaeological dig during some indistinct historical period I don’t have the knowledge to exactly pin down, haha.

Vicious by VE Schwab

Techincally, Vicious isn’t a standalone, but it’s phenomenal, and I would be over the moon if it were translated to the big screen! The non-linear narrative could present a challenge, but the culmination of the plot would be absolutely explosive to see in a movie. Not to mention the superhero/supervillain city showdown aesthetic would be phenomenal!

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

HEIST MOVIE HEIST MOVIE HEIST MOVIE!

Okay, sue me, I love a great heist. But imagine SoC as a movie! The aesthetic of Ketterdam, the gathering of the team, the point of view cuts between characters during the heist proper! And the balance between use of Grisha powers and plain old talent? Ugh, I’m going to dream of this every day until it happens.

Can you imagine how great these would be? Ugh, it makes me want them so badly, makes me want them NOW. The curses of waiting. But which books would you like to see on the big screen?
