It’s that time of year where we all make promises to ourselves about the changes we’re going to make in the new year. Some of us are better than others about following through (I’m not usually one of those people…), and some of us are proud just to check off a single box out of a whole list (or are frustrated that we did only that).
This year, I’m going to try to be better about making the changes I want to see, and I figured one way to do that is to be transparent about what I’m up to where this blog is concerned. So, without further ado, a look ahead at the future of The Words Gremlin!
More Discussions
I’ve noticed I do a lot of reviews and fun posts, but I rarely dive into any discussion. It’s something I’d like to change and try my hand at in the future, not to mention something that involves you guys more. I don’t want to be on a soapbox all by myself when I can chat with folks instead!
More Blog Hopping
This year’s been rough for interaction on the whole. Being busy with school and some personal issues has left little time for me to be super active within the blogging community, and that’s another thing I want to change. I want to make more time to read posts, comment, explore new blogs, talk to new people. I already do a little of this on Twitter, since that’s a little easier to pick up and drop in short bursts, but I feel like blogs are where it really counts, where it feels best to give and receive.
More Resources
I’ve been thinking about it, and what exactly does my blog provide? Reviews, yes, me chattering at length, yes. But I feel like I could provide resources, too, something in the vein of my art theft and free resources posts from way back when this year. I’m not yet sure what it is (not spreadsheets, since there are other spreadsheet wizards out there and I am but a spreadsheet novice at best), but maybe I’ll figure it out somewhere along the way.
Self-Hosting
A big one, one dependent on me having some money! I do have a job I start in January, a temporary one until I graduate in May, and after that, I have my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to get some stable work. We’ll see. Everything feels very up in the air right now, but that’s the goal. As is self-hosting, because I’d like a little more freedom in how my site displays, how it reaches folks, and all of that fun stuff. I’ve got to do the reading, prepare for it properly, but I keep thinking about it, and it seems to me that means I should try it as soon as I’m able to!
I’m sure as the year goes on, I’ll want to add more goals, but for now, this is what I have in sight. No concrete numbers, no follower counts or views (though I’ll admit those numbers are kind of nice to see grow), but stuff I can take action on and pay attention to.
If there’s anything you’d like to see from me (ex: a discussion on something, a particular resource, posts about something unusual), please let me know! I have fun with the content I already do, but I’m always looking for new ideas, and if you’re reading this, you’re part of the audience I’m hoping new ideas appeal to.
Happy New Year, folks! May 2019 treat you right, and may your own resolutions go swimmingly! πππ
I can’t wait to see some discussion posts from you! I also have that as one of my goals for next year. Time to get on our soapboxes!
Good luck with all of your goals and have a happy new year!!! π
Thanks, Sav! Hopefully between the two of us, we’ll have interesting things to say lol.
Happy New Year!
LOL I hope so too
Happy New Year to as well!! π
