Ringing in the New Year Tag

ringing in the new year tag

It’s TAG TIME again, and WOW, how long has it been since I last did a tag? Doesn’t matter, though, because we can reset that clock to zero! Big thanks to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads and Bakes for tagging me in this (and for resurrecting the tag to start with lol)!

So, should we hop to it and look at the New Year a couple weeks late?

Rules!

  • Link to the person who tagged you!
  • Link to the creator of the tag, which would be Bookmark Chronicles!
  • Answer the questions below!
  • Tag friends!

Questions!

Best book and/or series that you’ve read in 2018?

It’s so hard to choose, but I think I have to stick with A Conjuring of Light by VE Schwab. There were so many incredible books, but ACoL was an absolutely phenomenal conclusion, and I’m still reeling (and I’m pulling out my wallet the second the Threads of Power series is up for preorder). I just can’t get over it, and that sets it ahead of basically anything else I read in 2018.

Authors that you’ve recently found and would like to read more of in the new year?

NATASHA NGAN seriously omg I loved Girls of Paper and Fire so much and I desperately need more.

Also, though:

Shea Ernshaw

Tessa Gratton

Julie Kagawa (shhh, I know I’m late to the party this time)

Seanan McGuire

And this doesn’t even include a bunch of the 2019 debuts I’ve got my eye on! Twitter is killing me because that’s where I find announcements about books making it to NetGalley and I CAN’T STOP MYSELF FROM REQUESTING…

Most anticipated book turned movie/tv show?

I’m really excited about The Wicked Deep! I loved reading that in May last year, and I’m excited to see how it does in the adaptation.

I’m also keeping an eye out for the City of Ghosts adaption from the CW, but I don’t necessarily trust the CW to do it well, so I’m kind of watching between my fingers in fear. I want to support it because it’s VE Schwab! But also. The CW’s track-record is not my favorite thing. Makes me nervous.

Name a character that you wouldn’t mind sharing a kiss with at midnight (if there is one)?

LILA BARDDDDDDDDDDDD 😍😍😍

(Okay, actually, being ace and aro-spec, I’m not really big on kissing  AT ALL, but Lila’s basically my number one bookish gf so that’s that.)

How many books do you hope to read in 2019?

50 is my goal, but I did hit 60-some in 2018, so I would definitely be pleased to do that again!

Will you participate in the Goodreads Reading Challenge or any others?

Yes! That 50 books I’d like to read is my GR challenges standard (I do that every year, since it’s reasonable around my schedule nine times out of ten), and there’s a possibility that I’ll participate in some other challenges along the way. That said, I’m not really committed to anything in particular beyond the GR challenge.

Any New Year’s Resolutions?

Sure thing! I have some blogging ones you can read right here, but I also have some personal ones. I aim to apply to a couple publishing programs to get my foot in the door in the industry, and I’m also hoping to carve out the time to outline a bunch of projects, and finish first drafts of a couple of the smaller ones. It’s a busy set of resolutions, and some I’m not comfortable sharing specifics of online, but I’m really angling to make it work. And get a job somewhere in there, because graduation is coming and so are student loans. Which is the scariest thing in the world for me right now tbh.

Tagging!

All right, so I’m going to tag…

Asha @ A Cat, A Book, and a Cup of Tea — Sarah @ Murder by Tomes — Lauren @ Northern Plunder — Isabelle @ Bookwyrm Bites — Rose @ Stuck in Fiction

No pressure to do it, of course, but I’m excited to see your answers if you go for it! And tbh, even if I didn’t tag you but you want to give this a go, do it! The more, the merrier.

Happy New Year (y’know, two weeks after the fact)!!

  1. good luck on all your goals! graduation is indeed terrifying – I’m so glad I have another 3 years before I have to think about it 😅 and heck yes to ADSOM, it’s one of the best series I’ve read recently!

    thanks for tagging me 💕

  2. I really need to read ADSOM this year… And I didn’t know The Wicked Deep was going to be made into a movie! That’s kind of exciting! Thanks for doing the tag x

    1. You don’t like the pacing much, right? That was it? I don’t know if you’ll love ACoL like I did if you read it, but I will say it does conclusion stakes phenomenally well! It’s one of the rare books where the losses and stakes felt truly RIGHT for the finale of a series.

  3. Thank you so much for tagging me! 💜

Good luck with your graduation – I found it so scary but it was also a lot of fun!
