Top 5 Tuesday || Books on My Current TBR

Top 5 Tuesday

It seems like every few weeks, a T5T topic rolls up to shame me and my towering TBR, and honestly? That’s entirely fair. So props to Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog for reminding me to get back on track with this week’s prompt!

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

Really, all you need to tell me is that mermaids are involved, and I’ll throw it straight onto my TBR. Toss in murderous mermaids instead of cutesy jewel-toned mermaids, and I’ll move twice as fast. Given the hype surrounding this one, too, I’m hoping to get to it soon!

A Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney

After the Fierce Reads tour back in October, Elle’s debut jumped to the near-top of my TBR! Normally, Alice in Wonderland isn’t my jam, but she spun it in such a way that this book might make me change my mind about one of my least favorite classics. Also, she accidentally spoiled a major plot point by talking too fast, so I need the details. 😂

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

In case you can’t see that blurb on the cover, the first sentence reads: “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space!”

I need absolutely no more encouragement than that. None whatsoever. Sold, no questions asked.

Gays in space, but make it goth, baby!

Blood Water Paint by Joy McCullough

Normally, I have minimal interest in poetry. It just doesn’t click with me (probably thanks to poor experiences with it in academic settings). This, though? I’ve heard nothing but good things about the sheer power of Blood Water Paint, and I also know it’ll be a quicker than average read!

There Will Come a Darkness by Katy Rose Pool

Another book that the October Fierce Reads tour sold me on! Granted, I was already eyeballing it, but hearing Katy Rose Pool talk about There Will Come a Darkness in person made me know for sure that yes, I do want a heap of classical inspired world-building with pressures of destiny and a whole slew of POVs, thank you very much!

Of course, only five books from my TBR is hardly a representative view of the MASSIVE PILE that keeps judging me, waiting for me to actually read it all. And I’ll also admit the earliest I’m likely to read ANY of these is December. Holiday retail is THE PITS when it comes to productivity off the job. But soon nonetheless! Hopefully!

  1. Okay, all in favour of you reading To Kill a Kingdom, but I do want to point out that it’s about sirens and not mermaids. Mermaids do actually appear, but they are like fish-humanoid vicious dummies.
