Quick, tell me about your cosplay dreams!
Whether you’ve never been to a con (like me), or if you’re a regular attendee somewhere, you know that cosplay is a huge part of con-going. And today, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads is really throwing me (and all of my fellow con dreamers!) a bone, because the topic is to name characters I would dress up as!
Trust me, I’ve thought long and hard about this one. And some of these are…pretty much already in the works.
No, you don’t get to be surprised by that. I’m almost certain you saw this coming from at least a mile away.
Lila Bard from V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic Series
Oh, Lila Bard, love of my life, queen of piracy and knives and a general stubborn disregard for “this is the way things have always been done.” She’s one of my all time favorite characters, and decked out as she is in sweet pirate coats and a decent bit of disdain for gender (ugh, gender), I can’t help but want to cosplay her someday.
Thankfully, I have a cosplay buddy who’s already working on making this happen! She’s got a Kell cosplay all lined up for herself, and next time I see her (probably not until next year 😭), she’s going to put some finishing touches on a very nifty Lila Bard coat.
Kamai from Beyond the Black Door by A.M. Strickland
Basically the opposite of Lila Bard, Kamai gets to wear some really beautiful dresses, and while I don’t envy her personal situation, I do envy her wardrobe. When will the universe throw me a gorgeous ballgown and an excuse to wear it without being obviously overdressed for the occasion?
Plus, I just really like the color of her dress on the cover, even if it’s hard to see any other details.
Kate Harker from V.E. Schwab’s Monsters of Verity Duology
I’m going to be honest with you right now: about 60% of this post today is “which V.E. Schwab character do I want to dress up as next?” and I have no shame.
But Kate Harker is classic leather jacket, ripped jeans, tough boots, and it’s just. A look. Frankly, I wouldn’t even have to dress up as her specifically to like the look. I just want to look cooler than the reedy little nerd that I am. Is that such a terrible want?
Sydney Clarke from V.E. Schwab’s Villains Series
What did I tell you? I’m predictable as hell! But the thing is, Sydney Clarke gets to wear comfy leggings, big puffy coats and scarves, and she’s followed everywhere by a MASSIVE dog who loves her to pieces.
All things considered, I’m in this cosplay for the dog, even if I have to win a giant plush one at a fair somewhere. Cosplays are better with dogs, are they not?
Harrow the Ninth from Tamsyn Muir’s Locked Tomb Trilogy
Okay, you can’t tell me that bone corset isn’t cool as all hell. Plus, Harrow basically wears all black other than that and her little shawl thing on the cover here. Coincidentally, I also wear a lot of black. Must be fate. Or just convenience, but who cares?
Harrow’s got a killer look and I want to cosplay it.
So, think I could pull these characters off? Am I aiming to high? And what about your cosplay dreams! You should tell me who you want to cosplay so we can get excited about future cons together! 😃
Oh I definitely want to see images for a Lila Bard coat!!!! That sounds like so much fun!! 💕
It’s still with my friend all the way in Seattle, so I don’t have it yet (😭), but someday! Someday when I finally get to go see her again and we make any final alterations so it fits!
oh I would love to be Lila Bard!

Right? If you’re going to be any character, might as well be one of the most confident, clever, on top of things characters there is!
