November 28th, 2020

I try to make each Weekly Wrap stand out, I really do. But sometimes, especially around holidays, it just has to be a little of the same old, same old.

You know, like me planning to do things, and then diving headfirst into a video game without coming up for air!

Life Beyond the Blog

Do I have money to spare right now? Not really. Did I cave and put Age of Calamity on my card so that I could experience yet more Legend of Zelda content? Oh, you bet I did. Instead of working on Christmas presents or putting extra time into my NaNoWriMo words, I’ve been bouncing around Hyrule, completing quests and slaying monsters.

Frankly, the oncoming Calamity seems a hell of a lot simpler than 2020 has been. It’s surprisingly soothing.

For real, though, I’ve adored Age of Calamity so far, and I’ll probably post about it somewhere in the next month or so. It’s linear, it’s straightforward, it’s fun, and most of all, it’s a good way to kill time, even when I shouldn’t. (Maybe that last one isn’t such a great thing, to be honest.)

Besides that, though, I feel like I’m still in a turkey coma. This is actually the second Thanksgiving my family has done at home, by ourselves, and not as much of an adjustment as I expected it to be. And since it was the first family dinner we’ve had in a long while thanks to work schedules and class schedules interfering, it was really nice to sit down together and enjoy a meal from scratch. My mom makes a mean garlic mashed potato, and I’m hoping there’s just a little more left for me to take to work tonight.

Overall, I’ve had a surprisingly restful week, though not the productive one I was kidding myself it would be. But rest isn’t the worst way to spend my time, right?

The Week Ahead

Okay, this is it. The week things get serious. Mostly by virtue of wanting to mail out Christmas presents early to guarantee they arrive on time, I need to get busy crafting. I’m also in the home stretch of NaNoWriMo, and balancing that with work, which always amps up for the holiday season. Not a comforting thought, all things considered, but if I can get a lot of things off my plate this week, it will be a lot easier for me to enjoy the holidays ahead.

I’d love to enjoy gift-giving and all kinds of crafting without deadlines breathing down my neck, you know?

I’m also angling to finish watching Lucifer soon. I’m midway through the fourth season, and I know there aren’t that many episodes in the fifth, so it shouldn’t be too tough. To be entirely honest, I think NaNoWriMo has been the big time suck, and as much as I love it, I’m also glad it’s coming to a close. Writing every day for a month and aiming for 50k words is satisfying, but so is taking a day off here or there to not make words go.

I hope you’ve had a restful week of your own, and hopefully, I see you all in the next Weekly Wrap with crafty updates and bookish plans for the final stretch of the year! 💛
