January 1st, 2022
Happy New Year! I’d say this is going to be my year, but honestly, it’s 2022’s turn to shape up, not mine. Tired of minding my own business and getting body-slammed by the relentless passage of time and constant stream of news, y’know?
But hey, let’s start this year with a bang, right? And with a Weekly Wrap!
Life Beyond the Blog
I feel like there’s an emoji for the way my week has gone. It’s this guy: π
That little zigzag mouth is solid visual representation of the last few days, and I would like to get off this ride, thank you. The good and the bad are about even at this point, just playing tug-o-war with my poor, tired brain. Every celebration has been followed by a metaphorical baseball bat to the face, so it feels a little like icing my wounds with a cold bottle of champagne.
Oh yeah. Starting 2022 off with some highly specific metaphors. What else am I supposed to do?
Unstable nature of basic human existence aside, though, I still somehow feel somewhat refreshed. It’s a new year! It feels like a good time to start anew on things I dropped the ball on, or just trying new things in general! And thanks to a couple days off, I actually got some sleep. Is there any greater gift than that?
(The answer is yes, yes there is a greater gift. The IKEA shark my coworker bought for me is proof. Please meet Joan of Shark. Please appreciate her.)
Anyway, I think that makes this Weekly Wrap a net positive. The world is messy, but it’s time to try again, and this time, I’m armed with a three foot shark plushie that is possibly the greatest gift I’ve ever received. Nothing can stop me now! π¦

The Week Ahead
Now, this is where things get tricky. Beginning this week, I’m moving up to full time at work. And the way the schedule shook out, what with folks on vacation and coming back and all that, I work six days in a row.
I have some regrets, but I am trying to keep my eye on the prize (that sweet, sweet paycheck).
Provided I don’t completely expire this week, and that my ghost doesn’t write the next Weekly Wrap, I’m hoping to at least start a couple new (and small) habits to make it easier to reach my reading goals. I’ve failed to meet my goal the last two years, probably because of pandemic-related misery and work stress, but I have a couple ideas of how I can make it happen this year that I’m excited to try out. We’re starting with bite-size pieces instead of the whole darn ham at once, and I actually think this might work!
I’m also slowly trying to reestablish the bond between my two youngest bunnies. They were spayed and neutered at the end of December, and while there’s no risk of them making baby buns anymore, they still can’t be together. Their hormones are a raging mess for at least the next couple weeks, and their bond is a little strained right now. I can’t leave them unsupervised without them getting into squabbles, but they also like to try grooming each other through their pen divider after they’re done bickering. Peak sibling energy, I suppose. They hate each other, and then life is good.
With any luck, we’ll make some slow progress restoring their bond so I can remove the divider and they can be best buds for life again. They’re basically just cranky teenagers who need some time apart when they’re not being watched together.
I think that’s it for this Weekly Wrap! It’s a big milestone, stepping into 2022 like this, but let’s take it piece by piece. No overdoing it, okay, friends?
I’d love to hear how you ended your 2021, and what you’re going to try and make your 2022 look like. Happy New Year, and let’s chat!
I hope you have a great start of the year!
Thank you, Evelyn! Same to you!!
happy new year! 2021 was rough for sure, here’s hoping 2022 clears the very low bar of being better π€ as far as things that i can actually control, “piece by piece” definitely seems like the way to go; i’m starting with my sleep schedule since that affects basically everything else π΄
also: i would die for joan of shark.
The bar is on the GROUND, but here we go! Let’s make it happen! And tbh, starting with your sleep schedule is such a smart choice. I wish you the best of luck wrangling that into something manageable!
Welcome to the Joan of Shark fanclub, btw. You can never leave. π¦π¦π¦
Joan of Shark is amazing, and I am looking forward to more bunny catch ups!! Also, glad you got some more sleep. I hope the sweet, sweet paycheck is worth it!! π
