Top 5 Tuesday || Tropes I Can’t Get Enough Of

Is it a book or is it fanfic?

You don’t have to answer that question. All you have to do is accept that some tropes are classic wherever they show up. Today, thanks to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads making it the Top 5 Tuesday topic of the week, I’m sharing a few of the tropes I can’t get enough of, no matter what shape they come in!

Top 5 Tuesday || Sequels I’d Sell my Soul For

Top 5 Tuesday banner displaying a hand with five rings

Admittedly, there are many sequels I’d sell my soul for.

As with every T5T topic Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads sets, it feels impossible to narrow it down to only five. But at the end of the day, there’s only so many books that would have me slapping down my signature in blood (or something like that), and these are at the top of the list. I’m trying my hardest to be patient and hope for good news, but man, it sure is hard.

For absolutely no reason at all, does anyone know someone interested in fulfilling bookish wishes in exchanges for souls? Asking for, uh, a friend.

Top 5 Tuesday || Standalone Books

Top 5 Tuesday banner displaying a hand with five rings

Sometimes, I need a break from long series, and that’s what standalone books are for.

The trouble is that you have to find good ones, though, ones that really know how to tell a single story and end it. Sometimes, it’s tricky to find them. Hopefully today’s T5T topic, though, set by Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads, will help you find some new standalone books to give you a break from series, especially if you’re a fantasy reader like me.

And I have to admit, sometimes, it’s really nice not to have to follow-up to know how the story ends.

Top 5 Tuesday || Series of All Time

When anyone asks for my favorite anything of all time, I tend to forget everything I know.

Anyone else have that issue? Seriously, it’s the worst. Suddenly, I know nothing, even though I have to have favorites. Maybe it’s the pressure of ranking them? Or just trying to visualize what my shelves look like so I can pluck titles from a visual memory? Either way, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads probably knows she put me and a bunch of other readers to the test with today’s T5T topic, the best series of all time.

Meeghan, somehow, I managed it. Please have mercy on me and don’t make me choose favorite children in this difficult a topic ever again. 🥺 That’s clearly what made this topic a week late, after all.

Top 5 Tuesday || Retellings

You’re never too old for a good fairytale.

Trust me. And with retellings like these, you’d never want to be anyway! Personally, I’m picky about my retellings (they have to really stand out to catch my attention), and these five are some of my absolute favorites.

And hats off, as ever, to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads for setting today’s Top 5 Tuesday topic! She’s probably the wise wizard in so many of the original fairytales we know and love. I mean, look at how smart she is about her topic choices! 🧙

Top 5 Tuesday || Books with People on the Cover

People on the cover of books can be hit or miss.

Thankfully, it’s Top 5 Tuesday, not Worst 5 Wednesday, so we get to talk about the hits today (thanks as usual to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads)! I’m a huge fan of illustrated covers, especially ones in a more painterly style, and today, we’re including a lot of that.

You guys, I have so much love to give. This might be my favorite topic this month!

Top 5 Tuesday || Books With Buildings on the Cover

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the scenery.

We don’t always get a lot of it with books, focused as we are on characters and plot. But setting always plays an important role, and today, it’s the star! Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads decided it was time to spotlight our favorite books with buildings on the cover, and lo and behold, I actually found five books to showcase. The scenery on some might be a little subtle, but you can’t deny the effect it has overall!

Top 5 Tuesday || Books With Plants on the Cover

Believe it or not, I used to work in a greenhouse.

Double believe it or not, I had an awesome green thumb at work, and couldn’t keep anything alive at home. Still not sure how that happened, even to this day. Thankfully, plants on the cover of a book don’t need too much care. In fact, I suspect they thrive if you just talk about them, which means that it’s a good thing Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads made this week’s T5T topic just to showcase their green, green glory.

And can I get a round of thanks that book plants are so pretty and allergy friendly? All the beauty, none of the pollen! You can’t beat that!

Top 5 Tuesday || Books with Creatures on the Cover

What’s better than a little creature?

Books with said little creatures on the cover, of course! Maybe it’s because I read a lot of fantasy, but I do love a good creature feature, especially illustrated ones. As nice as it is to leave things to the imagination, I can’t resist the work of talented artists, especially wrapped around the work of talented authors.

And since Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads is a generous and clever soul, that’s what today’s first T5T post will cover! This is actually a catch up from last week, since I was on vacation. It’s also me trying not to feel too bad about skipping books with food on the cover. Did you know I own ZERO books with food on the cover? Big ol’ goose egg. None. Zip. Kind of disappointing really, but maybe it’s because I don’t read much contemporary, where I’m sure you see more of it.

Petition for fantasy books to start putting food on covers? Nah, what am I saying? We have creatures!

Top 5 Tuesday || Hyped Books I Didn’t Like

Top 5 Tuesday banner displaying a hand with five rings

Oh, to like every book I’ve ever read!

If only, right? It would be just so nice not to dislike things. But today, thanks to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads popping this can of worms wiiiiide open, we’re going over some of the big hyped books I didn’t like. Do I dare say, even hated?

Admittedly, a large part of this post comes with a generous heap of salt on top. Do with that information what you will, my friends. And hopefully, maybe we even agree… 👀
