BOO! Are you scared yet?
Probably not, since I’m hardly the intimidating sort. If I was a ghost, I’d be Casper (adorable and non-threatening, despite any attempts otherwise). The ghosts I’m talking about for Top 5 Tuesday, though? Well, some of them are definitely spookier than I am!
And of course, you can thank Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads for this month’s T5T prompts! She’s been a stellar host so far, and hopefully she doesn’t mind me squishing two rounds of T5T into one day! 🧡

Spooky season is well and truly upon us!
And I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan, but that’s a discussion for another time. For now, we just need to worry about the new Top 5 Tuesday prompts Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads has set! She’s kicking things off with black and orange books, and charmingly, I am…a whole week late.
But this means you get a T5T double feature, so how’s that for bad timing turned good timing, huh? Happy haunting! 🖤🧡

Okay, but do I really want to swap places with anyone?
To be entirely fair, there aren’t any characters I’d trade places with, not 100%. Too many of them deal with constant suffering, or intermediate suffering that sucks four times as much as the constant suffering.
I’d get flattened in an instant by that, especially without my anti-depressants. No thanks, too much pressure for me!
But if you’re really going to make me choose, like Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads is doing with today’s Top 5 Tuesday prompt, then I suppose I can come up with a list of characters whose lives are either tolerable or have cool enough pieces worth trading for!

Quick, tell me about your cosplay dreams!
Whether you’ve never been to a con (like me), or if you’re a regular attendee somewhere, you know that cosplay is a huge part of con-going. And today, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads is really throwing me (and all of my fellow con dreamers!) a bone, because the topic is to name characters I would dress up as!
Trust me, I’ve thought long and hard about this one. And some of these are…pretty much already in the works.
No, you don’t get to be surprised by that. I’m almost certain you saw this coming from at least a mile away.

Now, let’s look on the other side of the coin.
After looking at everything getting messy in books last week, now it’s time to look at books where something went right! There’s something satisfying about seeing all the threads come together for a victory lap, and thanks to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads hosting Top 5 Tuesday, today’s the day we’ll explore that!

You have to have something go wrong in order to make something go so wonderfully right. Right?
I’ve found over time that books where something went wrong early on tend to have the most punch later. More than that, though, I love seeing exactly how wrong it can get, how skewed the plan can become. It’s more fun to watch it spiral out of control than it is to proceed as normal, right?
And thanks to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads, the new host of Top 5 Tuesday, we’re going to dig into that today! Give her a warm welcome to hosting before we start, and then get ready for my favorite examples of bookish disaster!

The opening line of a book can make or break an entire story.
That first line is the first impression a book makes on a reader. Sometimes, it’s not the end all, be all, but other times, it packs a punch you can’t ignore. Thankfully, we get to appreciate opening lines a little extra right now, since Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog chose them as the focus of today’s T5T prompt!
And yes, one of them on the list is a V.E. Schwab line. You all knew this was coming. But the rest? Read on and find out!

Sometimes, characters just aren’t fit to wear the crown.
Look, all of us have our opinions on authority figures in books. A few are good. A lot of them are bad. But today’s post, courtesy of Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog, is all about the worst rulers. The nastiest of the lot. The cruelest.
Given the opportunity and a significant boost in my skills, I would fight every one of these rulers. Square up, folks. Let’s dance.

Me? Exposed for procrastination two weeks in a row?
It’s more likely than you think. Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog has a remarkable talent for getting me to call myself out via my TBR, and today is no exception. We get to look at the series I want to start this week, not just the scattered books that are popular but may or may not be on my TBR. And in doing that, we get to see just how far into the backlist I really should be going.
The answer is pretty far. It’s easy to get wrapped up in ARCs and new releases. Hopefully soon I can do these backlist books right!

It’s not unusual for me to be…a little bit behind.
I tend to be late to the party on a lot of things, including books. Sometimes, I’m lucky and get ahead (bless you, NetGalley ARC gods), but more often than not? I’m clueless until wayyyy after the fact. This is especially true with popular books, too!
Which naturally means that Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog has made today’s T5T capable of exposing me for what I am: a procrastinator who knows the mainstream exists about a year after the fact. Do you know how long it took me to read Children of Blood and Bone? To give Sadie a shot?
Oh well. Why don’t you just give me hell for these late arrivals to my shelf instead? I’m ready for it. Go ahead. Let the roast begin.
