Tania de Batz is most herself with a sword in her hand. Everyone in town thinks her near-constant dizziness makes her weak, nothing but “a sick girl”; even her mother is desperate to marry her off for security. But Tania wants to be strong, independent, a fencer like her father—a former Musketeer and her greatest champion.
Then Papa is brutally, mysteriously murdered. His dying wish? For Tania to attend finishing school. But L’Académie des Mariées, Tania realizes, is no finishing school. It’s a secret training ground for a new kind of Musketeer: women who are socialites on the surface, but strap daggers under their skirts, seduce men into giving up dangerous secrets, and protect France from downfall. And they don’t shy away from a swordfight.
With her newfound sisters at her side, Tania feels for the first time like she has a purpose, like she belongs. But then she meets Étienne, her first target in uncovering a potential assassination plot. He’s kind, charming, and breathlessly attractive—and he might have information about what really happened to her father. Torn between duty and dizzying emotion, Tania will have to lean on her friends, listen to her own body, and decide where her loyalties lie…or risk losing everything she’s ever wanted. And is it a betrayal to find her own place in the world?
DISCLAIMER: I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
That’s right! Today is Hail & Well Read’s 3rd blogiversary, and it’s so exciting! If you’d asked me three years ago where I thought my blog would be, I wouldn’t have possibly guessed here. And yet, that’s exactly where we are, and I couldn’t be more delighted!
And even better, today is for celebrating. I’ll be answering your questions from the post I set up a couple weeks ago, just for this purpose, and I’ll be revealing the winner of my giveaway! How much more exciting can it get?
(The answer is very, provided you are excited about bunnies. 👀)
We’re teetering on the edge of summer, and it’s time to get those seasonal TBRs ready!
I’ll admit that I’m actually not great at crafting a seasonal TBR. Mostly, I organize my reading based on ARC review deadlines and which books have been sitting on my shelf the longest (or which ones are demanding my attention the loudest). But Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog decided that today’s T5T is for celebrating summer reads, so what do you know?
It’s about to get summery as hell here. Might want to go grab a beach towel and some sunscreen before you start, okay?
Listen, even if this year’s resolutions didn’t go so swimmingly, we’re headed toward a whole new year, and more importantly, a whole new decade! We might as well set some goals worth achieving, and see how it shakes out in the new year, right?
So here’s where I hope The Words Gremlin is going, and a little bit about where we’ve been.
We’re a week and some away from Christmas, Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog has decided today’s the best day to share the five books at the top of my wishlist! We’ll see if my family gets me any of these, or if they just turn me loose with a B&N gift card instead. 😂
We’re all guilty of having a TBR pile we just can’t seem to reach the bottom of. Here’s a few of the books I didn’t manage to read this year, books that are getting bumped up to the front of my list, thanks to Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog deciding that today’s T5T topic would force me to think about what I’ve had to cut from my schedule!
Turns out that Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog has two weeks in a row of reminding me of what I should be reading! I can use NaNoWriMo as an excuse for a couple more weeks, but I suppose I should pick up the pace in December, huh?
It seems like every few weeks, a T5T topic rolls up to shame me and my towering TBR, and honestly? That’s entirely fair. So props to Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog for reminding me to get back on track with this week’s prompt!
Top 5 Tuesday has been a little slow this month here at The Words Gremlin, if only because spooky season is mostly not my thing (and because the two other prompts this month were for booktube and audiobooks, neither of which my brain allows me to consume without CONSTANT DISTRACTION 😩). Atmosphere, though, is, and Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog has made sure today’s prompt is perfect for Halloween sitting just around the corner!
