Top 5 Tuesday || Bookish Resolutions for 2022

January can only mean one thing: starting fresh.

And starting fresh here at Hail & Well Read means sharing bookish resolutions for 2022! Thankfully, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads made that a T5T topic, saving me from making a million resolutions I’ll struggle to keep. This year, it’s going to be about steady simplicity, about taking one step at a time. And, most importantly, it’s going to be about having a good time. What could be better than that?

Goodreads Choice Awards? Not in this economy.

Okay, okay, I know the GR Choice Awards did happen. And I know they’re kind of a mess, as usual. But you know what clearly really matters? The best books of 2021. My best books of 2021, to be specific. 😤 That’s right, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads clearly intended this to be all about my opinions here, and boy, do I have them prepared and ready to go!

Full disclosure: I will not be swayed on any of these selections, unlike most T5T posts. This is the definitive list. Just the way it is, folks!

Sometimes, you just need to look at something pretty.

Seriously. Ever feel your blood pressure drop when you look at a picture of a cute animal? Or that moment of awe realizing a photo is actually a painting? Call me simple if you want, but I enjoy looking at nice things and taking a break. And technically, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads gave me that opportunity last week, but I’m a little slow on the uptake. That means we’re exploring my favorite covers of 2021 today instead, followed by my favorite new authors a little later today.

The fun never ends! Pretty covers to look at! Authors with brand new works to read and explore! There’s literally nothing that can go wrong today. I refuse to believe otherwise. 😌

Top 5 Tuesday || Books on my Holiday Wishlist

Looks like we’re taking a breather this week!

No admitting to overflowing TBRs or books that just won’t leave our shelves. Instead, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads is embracing the holiday spirit and making us all look at which books crown everyone’s holiday wishlist!

In true T5T spirit, it’s nearly impossible to narrow it down to just five, but hey! This time, it’s extra fun, and filled with anticipation! Every year, I give my family a list of books and ask for next to nothing else for Christmas, which means I might just see some of these titles under the tree soon… 👀

Top 5 Tuesday || T5T Books I Haven’t Read in 2021

It’s that time again: Meeghan Shames Meaghan!

I swear, Meeghan picks these topics specifically to make me admit that I’m behind on my Goodreads Challenge. And on my TBR in general. In today’s self-exposé, take a look at the books I’ve most wanted to read in 2021, and still haven’t gotten to! Then thank Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads for making today’s topic “Books I Haven’t Read in 2021” (or shame her for it, if you’d like to take my side in this war).

Top 5 Tuesday || Tropes I Dislike

It’s time to complain!

All in good fun, of course, though I think some of my complaints today are justified. Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads set last week’s T5T topic as “Tropes I Dislike,” and I’ll be tackling it today instead (mostly since I don’t feel like combing through books with bad tropes to find the shining example of a good subversion for today’s real topic).

Technical details aside, come join me in crabbing about tropes that fill me with dislike! Or even hate, in a couple cases. I know that’s a strong word to use, but trust me: there’s a couple tropes that don’t deserve anything less than my full animosity. Okay? Okay, cool.

Top 5 Tuesday || Tropes I Can’t Get Enough Of

Is it a book or is it fanfic?

You don’t have to answer that question. All you have to do is accept that some tropes are classic wherever they show up. Today, thanks to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads making it the Top 5 Tuesday topic of the week, I’m sharing a few of the tropes I can’t get enough of, no matter what shape they come in!

Top 5 Tuesday || Sequels I’d Sell my Soul For

Top 5 Tuesday banner displaying a hand with five rings

Admittedly, there are many sequels I’d sell my soul for.

As with every T5T topic Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads sets, it feels impossible to narrow it down to only five. But at the end of the day, there’s only so many books that would have me slapping down my signature in blood (or something like that), and these are at the top of the list. I’m trying my hardest to be patient and hope for good news, but man, it sure is hard.

For absolutely no reason at all, does anyone know someone interested in fulfilling bookish wishes in exchanges for souls? Asking for, uh, a friend.

Top 5 Tuesday || Standalone Books

Top 5 Tuesday banner displaying a hand with five rings

Sometimes, I need a break from long series, and that’s what standalone books are for.

The trouble is that you have to find good ones, though, ones that really know how to tell a single story and end it. Sometimes, it’s tricky to find them. Hopefully today’s T5T topic, though, set by Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads, will help you find some new standalone books to give you a break from series, especially if you’re a fantasy reader like me.

And I have to admit, sometimes, it’s really nice not to have to follow-up to know how the story ends.

Top 5 Tuesday || Series of All Time

Top 5 Tuesday banner displaying a hand with five rings

When anyone asks for my favorite anything of all time, I tend to forget everything I know.

Anyone else have that issue? Seriously, it’s the worst. Suddenly, I know nothing, even though I have to have favorites. Maybe it’s the pressure of ranking them? Or just trying to visualize what my shelves look like so I can pluck titles from a visual memory? Either way, Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads probably knows she put me and a bunch of other readers to the test with today’s T5T topic, the best series of all time.

Meeghan, somehow, I managed it. Please have mercy on me and don’t make me choose favorite children in this difficult a topic ever again. 🥺 That’s clearly what made this topic a week late, after all.
