The opening line of a book can make or break an entire story.
That first line is the first impression a book makes on a reader. Sometimes, it’s not the end all, be all, but other times, it packs a punch you can’t ignore. Thankfully, we get to appreciate opening lines a little extra right now, since Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog chose them as the focus of today’s T5T prompt!
And yes, one of them on the list is a V.E. Schwab line. You all knew this was coming. But the rest? Read on and find out!

Sometimes, characters just aren’t fit to wear the crown.
Look, all of us have our opinions on authority figures in books. A few are good. A lot of them are bad. But today’s post, courtesy of Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog, is all about the worst rulers. The nastiest of the lot. The cruelest.
Given the opportunity and a significant boost in my skills, I would fight every one of these rulers. Square up, folks. Let’s dance.

Me? Exposed for procrastination two weeks in a row?
It’s more likely than you think. Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog has a remarkable talent for getting me to call myself out via my TBR, and today is no exception. We get to look at the series I want to start this week, not just the scattered books that are popular but may or may not be on my TBR. And in doing that, we get to see just how far into the backlist I really should be going.
The answer is pretty far. It’s easy to get wrapped up in ARCs and new releases. Hopefully soon I can do these backlist books right!

It’s not unusual for me to be…a little bit behind.
I tend to be late to the party on a lot of things, including books. Sometimes, I’m lucky and get ahead (bless you, NetGalley ARC gods), but more often than not? I’m clueless until wayyyy after the fact. This is especially true with popular books, too!
Which naturally means that Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog has made today’s T5T capable of exposing me for what I am: a procrastinator who knows the mainstream exists about a year after the fact. Do you know how long it took me to read Children of Blood and Bone? To give Sadie a shot?
Oh well. Why don’t you just give me hell for these late arrivals to my shelf instead? I’m ready for it. Go ahead. Let the roast begin.

Okay, I have to admit things haven’t changed…that much.
I’m an introvert at heart, which means my routine doesn’t look much different than usual, save for no work and no travel beyond grocery or pharmacy trips. But the external stress of, well, everything means I still need some sanity savers. I may not get cabin fever like my more extroverted family members, but anxiety? Oh, that’s very real.
But Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog gets it, and today’s T5T topic is for all the things that are still enjoyable right now! Hopefully between my post and everyone else’s, you can find some things to try while you’re working on keeping it together, whether it’s cabin fever getting to you, anxiety riling you up, or just a general, looming sense of dread hovering over things. Let’s take it one thing at a time, like this list, and hopefully we’ll see the other side.

What’s T5T without the occasional T6T?
Since the alphabet so unfortunately does not divide into fives neatly, today, we’ve got six favorite authors from U to Z! That said, some letters gave me more trouble than others, so maybe we’re back down to five?
Anyhow, before we get into it, a big thanks to Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog for putting together another excellent month of T5T prompts!

When I say Top 5 Tuesday, I really mean Top 10.
I was supposed to do K through O last week, but stress decided to slide tackle me into oblivion. But never fear! We’re tackling authors from K to T today, smashing two entire Top 5 Tuesday prompts together! It’s ambitious, it’s exciting, and it’s hopefully not too outlandish? I guess Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog will have to be the judge of that, since she runs the prompts.
Without further ado, though…here’s ten of my favorites!

If you’re not singing the alphabet in your head to get through this list, what are you doing?
Going only five letters at a time means I keep forgetting to look at the official March T5T topic list from Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog, and I just go through the alphabet in my head until I have the letters I need. Why do things the easy way? Isn’t the pointlessly longer route more fun? But setting debates about alphabetical efficiency aside, here’s my list of top authors from F to J!

Ah, yes, the cornerstone of all lists: the alphabet.
A while back, Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog did an A to Z T5T series focused on favorite books. Now, she’s turned the tables and brought it back, this time for favorite authors! Today, we’re looking at authors from A to E to kick March off!

Sometimes, you just need a book to leave you reeling for a little while.
That’s why this week, the Top 5 Tuesday topic from Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog is all about books that caused a major reading hangover! They seem few and far between, but they’re each a gem in their own right. I love them because they left me wanting even more, so much that I wasn’t willing to move onto another book right away!
Even if I had to keep reading, because I refuse to let ARC deadlines get the better of me.
So, which books have hit me the hardest? Let’s go down the list!
